It doesn’t, you use the key in the grill to open the bonnet turn it anti clockwise to pop it and clockwise to open it fully.

... went through like butter. being careful with progress it just touched the bit on the back that turns (the bit the lock turns in the catch) and the bonnet popped up. stopped drilling and in with a screw driver to turn clockwise and it was released

Can you see up to where it latches onto the bonnet? If you can maybe it’s worth undoing the 2 10mm (I think) bolts thus detaching ... if your doing away with it anyway you maybe able to access the inner parts to release the latch.

I finally managed to get back on this and nothing would move , won't budge so am I trying to do the correct thing? I used this to try and turn where the groves are and it quite a good fit

... it’s only glass fibre so won’t take much to get through, once you fit the pins put a blob of Vaseline or similar on top of the pits and lower the bonnet onto them thus transferring the Vaseline to the bonnet so you know where to drill through, once the holes are made you can close the bonnet and ...
