Yeh I see why you done it it's ideal for your needs, all I would Change in mines would be the gearstick too cos I'm quite tall am right back and half to reach away forward for the gearstick where as in a mk7 I don't lave that bother.

hi
how i ddid mine i used the wiring loom for the mk6 , left it in situ so all the wiring is there, the light switch on mine fitted the same wires, mk6 the only real problem were the clocks, seems it depends which one you have!!! mine were the digital ones but I had to spend a lot of time cutting the surround about and then glueing the thing together, plus cutting the dash to make them fit, then making a bit to hide my glueing.
the part for the gearbox end of cables is the mk7 remote gear change, got mine from fairlight vehicles down in essex but they were very quick and i thought a good price, so im happy, i also used my mk6 radio, made a surround to fit , the only thing that ddont fit is the mk7 4way flasher switch, different wiring so i used my mk6 and just put it next to the mk7 switch , left it in place so there is two side by side, so what.

Hope all this helps and that you get lots of photo's to show others how its done, like i say im really pleased with mine and at the end of the day thats what matters.

Goood luck.
p.s. im away for 2weeks from wednesday so wont be able to answere any questions you might have, sorry.

Hi,

Yeah i'll put all the pics to my front end conversion sticky.

Did you use the mk6 heater controls? Does the mk7 ducting attach to the mk6 heater system?

What are the mk7 Fixing points like are they the same as the mk6?

Mine are the digital clocks, its on an 06.

Sorry to bombard you with questions!!!

Regards

Hi, yeah, got the dash in, was no probs, took me 4 hours for the dash. Then i got a mk7 selector turret off ebay for 50 and the cables and got that swapped over a few days later.

Ive modded the hazard switch so its the mk7 one, cut the front of the new one off and molded the mk6 switch to the back of it! Bought radio adaptor plate, i know what you mean about there not being enough room, I had to cut the back of it out!

I heated the instrument cluster surround up and shaped it so i can see both sides of the clocks and fixed in the clocks, still need to get a new clear plastic front for my clocks as i bust it ages ago.

need a mk7 floor mat to finish the job properly.

Love it tho, glad i done it as cant even tell its a mk6!!

was the hole easy to do for the gear cables? how did you mark the hole? also how is the gear changing? is there more room or are they tight? i am good on the electrical side so i hope to work out the wiring on the hazzards. if i do i will let you know. also i will be working on the steering wheel. i will post some photos if i can do it. i will be starting mine in a couple weeks cause i have to get all the bits together first. if someone can let me know about the hole for the cables that will be good. regards Tony

hi sorry for the late reply ive been away on holiday for two weks only got back today at lunchtime.
the cutting of the hole for the cables is quiet easy if you can see from the photo's of mine the cables go through under the heater box bottom about 4" from the right hand side, you need to have the mk7 cables and the remote gear change from a mk7 or it wont work as the mk6 cables are shorter and the mk7 one's have different size ends on plus the lenght of the arm on the remote is longer.
i hope this helps but if you have any more questions i'll do my best to help you.
i dont know of a panel beater regards the front end change sorry, i was thinking of doing mine but funds wont allow and im happy with mine now ive sorted out the dash, much better than the mk6.
good luck

What did you do regarding the fog lights? Only I just noticed after ripping out and changing my dash that there is no warning light on the mk7 light switch,
