Jaguar front hubs to Transit mk2 front axle

Postby camper extraudinair » Wed Sep 12, 2012 7:00 am

I wonder if anyone can help.
I would like to fit jaguar front hubs & discs to my mk1 transit
with mk2 front crossmember.
Has anyone done such a conversion all comments welcome.

Hi mate, interesting idea you have there.

Firstly, check if the front wheel bearing kits are the same part number, if so you know that the stub axle diameters are the same. There was a lot of between brand interchangeability with older UK produced vehicles so you might have a chance.

Best thing is to get a Jag stub axle, compare dimensions/offset etc, if all is good then you are part way there.

You will no doubt need to fabricate a caliper bracket but the end result will provide you with a wheel pcd more favorable for aftermarket wheels and large disc brakes.

Make sure you post pics, there are a few on here who would be interested in the outcome.

Thank you Dieselhead 123
You have given me a starting point & food for thought.
The Reason i want to go Jaguar hubs is they should be
in plentiful supply & i am running a pontiac back axle
which has the same pcd using competition Revolution
wheels 8inch by 15 inch dia with 225 170 15s truck tyres.
Thanks once again.
will keep posting as i progress.

Just had a thought the front axle is a 1985 c reg is that a
mk 2 or mk3 axle.
It is a beam axle like mk 1s & 2s.

will 5 stud hubs swap straight over on the early ones?

So he could get some mk1/2 5 stud hubs and redrill to suit?

Have decided to go Jaguar as they are probably in
more plentyful supply possible moreso than mk1 & 2
transits.
I started by buying a pair of xjs front hubs complete
with great big four pot calipers the were delivered
at about four in the afternoon but i was out at the
time so the wife took them in.
The friend of mine who dropped them off had not
been paid so would pop in tommorrow.
I started by dismantling the jag hubs as all i wanted
was the hub disc & calipers.
Next i dismantled the transit hubs including the stone
guard & proceeded to slide the jag hub onto the Transit
s/a but the disc stopped it from going on.
I removed the disc from jag hub & on it went of course
the bearings were much larger so i fitted the transit
inner bearings after removing the jag grease seal &
bearings, unbelievable the hub spun as if it was made
for it.
Next i offered the very large jag caliper up to the T hub
again unbelievable the holes lighned up.
When my friend arrived the next day to collect his money
he could not believe it either.
He said he had lost sleep over how was i going to fit the
top & bottom ball joints to a beam axle.
The next job was to find a disc to fit the hub & also the
caliper.
I decided to go to a car dismantlers whilst visiting my
daughter on the outskirts of southampton.
There is one just up the road from them so in i went
why i don't know but something in my head said volvo
but as i walked past alfa's rovers i kept measureing
the diameter & offset of all the cars with five stud hubs.
The nearest was a volvo v70 it had a five stud hub 25 m m
inch offset & 280 m m dia disc.
On Monday morning i ordered a new pair of discs for said volvo.

Hi Transit lovers
So far this convertion has cost me £60 pounds for the front
hubs £67 pounds 10pence for the discs £24pounds odd for
the brake pads plus the volvo discs need the hole enlarged
to fit the hub centre of the jag.The cost of which i don't
know yet.
Next comes the new revolution wheels at £300 pounds & 50
pence including delivery.
Not last or least two new Bridgestone tyres 225 70 15 at
£218 pounds & then the front brake hoses & pipes.
Any problems will let you all know after road testing.
