My mate has a pi, way too much faffing around for me lol.
You can buy micro atx's and special power supplies etc for full on car pc setup if you wanted, my umpc has all that built in and it fits in the radio slot too so in theory i could run that, i even thought of getting a finger print reader and putting that by the door lock
But the major issue i have with it all is they are too slow booting up and may crash at any time so I'm kind of in limbo with it for now especially since i haven't finished the bodywork.

Raspberry pi with an edition of linux pre compiled. Just flash it to a SD card and then go from there. Everything is pretty much plug and play. no special coding to go in it. You just need to know your way around Linux.

I already have a system in a vehicle using a Raspberry Pi board and a few additions. Basically it is remotely accessible by 3G, wifi or bluetooth. Runs all the time from a battery that charges when the van is running will go for 3 weeks with no charge.

4 cams in total. Full GPS tracking or location by 3G (depends on the carrier mast though so not totally accurate).

You can use a web based interface or access by FTP or SSH. Information is stored locally on the Pi and then sync'ed when a good signal is present to offsite server both of which are fully encrypted.

My friend has a Pi so I now have a small chance to do it. If you can give any further information I will practically sell my soul!
