Trackers and cctv INSIDE van

Postby Lurchersand1cat » Thu May 16, 2013 10:08 am

I would love some advice on trackers on your vans what costs are involved and the types people have please.

I would like a recordable camera system in my van when I am parked up ( outside a house on drive with wifi if required) can anyone advise how I can film the dogs in the van whilst I am in for my lunch. I have been advised an inverter and a simple camera with card slot. Do the inverters run the batteries down hard and what wattage?!

Any help would gratefully be received.

Thank you I have noticed I can get this http://www.livingleisure.co.uk/shop/fal ... p-558.html

so I could have one camera looking out to caged area and one into dogs ......right will find thread and look for 170degree thingy I managed to use a reversing camera as a cctv for my horse in her trailer so maybe I can work out how to do it for van but without needing ignition on....oooh my poor brain

I have been thinking of doing this, first step would be a separate battery to run it all. Transmitting a signal depends on how far you want to go away from it, otherwise a simple baby monitor would do it. Always best to try not to use inverters as they are power hungry.

I have read on line about people using pay as you go mobile phones as trackers in cars, also modifing the phone so it acts as an alarm and rings there mobile if somebody sets it off.
Its well worth doing a web search for homemade alarm/tracker.

Just had a crazy thought  i started thinking ip camera but the Wi-Fi would go out of range so needs to be 3g, can't put a cam with card reader for security reasons as that's pointless if the van is stolen because those cams are on a watch later basis, then i thought of my mobile phone alarm but that'll just call me if the alarm sounds which in my van i have never heard!.
So then i went on to my Samsung Mobile pc tablet but i need a system that can be triggered rather than booted up.
Then urika, android tablet head unit in the dash, Free internet via sim card and front facing camera/maybe roof mounted camera via Bluetooth??
Auto answer and video calling via skype /watsapp etc.
Cooool just do a video conference with your dogs! " whistle, here boy"
And as an added bonus if the van gets pinched you can have a friendly chat with the robber while telling him all about his mother !
I'm not 1 to spin a yarn but i can see real possibilities with this idea chaps.

Just checked, android tablet will work with skype over 3g despite not being a cell phone.

Don't imagine it's that easy, current draw, auto answer......
Best thing I saw was a GPS unit that you could ring and it then let you listen to the van, plus gave you a GPS location.

 it should be possible, the good thing with android is the way you can make apps do anything, you could easily get it to auto answer a skype call and in standby mode there would be no drain, you could rig up a timer charger to charge either for an hour every 6hrs or when ignition is on or both.
Plus it hasa built in battery.

My drawing skills are crap but you get what i mean lol.

I already have a system in a vehicle using a Raspberry Pi board and a few additions. Basically it is remotely accessible by 3G, wifi or bluetooth. Runs all the time from a battery that charges when the van is running will go for 3 weeks with no charge.

4 cams in total. Full GPS tracking or location by 3G (depends on the carrier mast though so not totally accurate).

You can use a web based interface or access by FTP or SSH. Information is stored locally on the Pi and then sync'ed when a good signal is present to offsite server both of which are fully encrypted.

Get a Pi board ;)
