Custom V8 van

Postby coe8177 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:10 pm

Hi, I am currently running a fleet of transits from 02 to 06 for my newish steel company. I have decided to make myself a project van to use as a play thing but also as a talking point when going to meetings. I do have medium mechanic skills but am no expert by a long throw. I am looking to put a V8 (preferably American chevy or the like) into a 1997 transit. can anyone help with this? Any literature, advice or parts available would be appreciated.

Thanks :D :D :D

The Rover would be the least hassle because of its slightly smaller size but just wouldn't have the grunt of a 350 Chevy for example. I stuffed a Rover in a little Mazda B1800 pickup for a mate in the late 70's and it wasn't all that nippy but sounded sweet. Before that I put a 273 (4.5l) Chrysler in a Bedford CF. Same story. Bags better than the original 2 litre but nothing all that special. The real results will come with 5 litres or more. I suggest you use an auto box because room for the clutch pedal becomes a problem if/when you need to cut away some of the floor to fit the wider engine, etc. Lots of problems but taken one at a time you can get through it.

PS. If you do decide to go ahead with the project take lots of pix and post them on here. We love Transit porn!

If you don't need to put goods in the back you could always mid mount it like the mk1 Supervan.

Defo... if you want a talking point, seal up engine bay, make it a storage area and stick the v8 in the rear.... could mount it mid way thru floor perhaps and box it over so can still put stuff in the rear.....
like the xj220 van on topgear that time... 8) :D
