Steel wheel banding

Postby doeboy » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:26 pm

Wanted to get my stock steelies banded for my mk6 lwb hi roof, how wide could I go and continue to use my current tyres?
215/75 I think?!?!
I was thinking of going 2 inch band on front and more on the back.

I found this website some time ago. It can be useful for people thinking about changing wheel diameters and tyre sizes, etc. but near the bottom there is also a chart giving recommended tyre section widths related to the wheel width.

Tyre Width Equivalency Table from link http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual ... calculator
is faulty - I think. It must to take into account not only tyre width, but also profile.

In link http://www.renaultsafrane.pl/kalkulator.htm (in lower window), you can calculate wheel width (min. - max.) - considering into account tyre width and profile.
It is in Polish - but not complicated... 8)

Are standard 16" steels 6j width?
Not sure if having van tyres ie reinforced tyre walls
would change the ability to stretch them at all?

You can buy brand new banded style steel wheels for little more than it costs to band a wheel. The only issue is you have to drill your own PCD thingy. Then transit wise we have captain hook for that

Just text my mate who bought some about a year ago. They only come blank or drilled for us ford or Chevy. As soon as he gets back to me I will let you know.
