Given how much room you have above the engine, why not fit a chargecooler?
It's not like you'll need access to the engine for maintenance, it's a VW

The chargecooler rad will be slimmer than an air/air intercooler so might also solve some of the space issues up front and you get to make another 8) looking tank bracket.

Tidy 'fab' work as normal though 8)

cheers Tim :D i'd thought about a charge cooler same as i've got on the 2JZ but its all the other stuff that goes with it and this isn't a 'performance' engine - if you know what i mean :)

i might end up with an intercooler in that space :?

Used to have a nissan navana, intercooler sits on top of engine, intake through scoop on bonnet, but looking at your picks wouldnt one fit on top of your engine, clear bonnet,an custom top with a 3",4"pipe leading to intake down near front cross member,?also plenty in breaker with blown ends....intake wouldnt have to be big, very visable, just similar cross section area to bonnet scoop

i'm trying to keep it looking factory from the outside - so i'm not really wanting a bonnet scoop...................... but you never know

With navrana intercooler i meant top inside bonnet, intake pipe down side of engine, intake"scoop"at crossmember level, not affecting bonnet line

Not too sure Luke.. in colder weather probably not much.. you'll get better throttle response without one though as a bonus. .. & I can probably adjust the fueling to compensate for a small loss anyway.. give it a whirl !
