Would one of these fit into a rear wheel drive transit.

Would it be easy to do or a fav.

Failing that a ST170 lump.

cheers in advance

st220 v6

I've got an ST170 in my Lada. RWD converted on a type 9 gearbox.

In a van the main problem is that type of gearbox is too weak. The logical upgrade is an MT75 box, but it isn't suitable for a live axle due to the gearbox coupling. The next step is a Cosworth T5 box, but they cost about £600-£1000 now.

Running anything like the ST170 requires a stand alone ECU for it to work properly, costs are about £600 and up.

Why not go for the jag S type 3 litre v6? 240bhp, choice of auto and manual and well under 1k for a whole car. Best thing is it's rwd to begin with. Plus it's the same basic engine as the st220

It's supposed to be the same as the jag 3.0, it's fords V6 duratec.

The only way you would find out is to buy one of these http://ebay.to/1ves1FC

It's a conversion I've been thinking about for my mk2, however you would need a adaptor plate making as the bell housing bolt pattern is different to anything else. You can buy a bell housing to mount it to a type 9 box but I wouldn't expect the box to last for long in a transit. The existing jag box doesn't get good reviews either, 220bhp is supposed to be the most it can handle based on Getrags numbering system and the jag has that as standard before you ditch the cats and emissions gear.
Sparks and injection would be a issue unless you can do anything with the standard ECU I didn't go to far into that as I was thinking of using a megasquirt to control it

Have seen manual one down to less than 500 now so they would make a cheap donor,

I doubt an adapter plate would be much of a problem

Hi, if I dropped off an engine and box to your place could you machine one up? Probably be more accurate if it's down properly than me using a bit of perspex and a scriber/ punches. Not got one yet but thinking ahead for next time I see a cheap donor.
Pm me with a price if you like.
