Painting plastics?

Postby tytek » Thu Dec 04, 2014 10:13 pm

I'm picking up a Mk7 front end for my van. I quite like the look of the painted 'Sport' grille and was wondering with the right prep and paint is it possible to get a good finish on plastic?
I don't want to paint it and have it flake a few months down the line.

A good clean, grey scotch the plastics. Plastic prime. Then a couple of good thick coats of filler primer to bury the textured finish. Once that is all flatted off, topcoat and lacquer.

As said, its all in the prep work and taking your time when spraying, last thing you want is the paint running.
