my banana engined chevy pickup

Postby sqweaka » Sun Feb 01, 2015 7:35 pm

hi all, im building a 49 chevy pickup, using engine/gearbox and some of the running gear from from a transit.
ive secured the purchase of 2.5di banana engine and 5 speed gearbox + all the gubbing etc from the engine bay, rad etc from a smiley face recovery truck to go in it.
i need an axle for it though but im unsure what axle widths and ratios the transit comes in if anyone can advise, the recovery im getting the motor from has twin wheels and i just want a single wheel axle with something like a 3.7-3.9 diff

3.9s were available for pre' 91 5 stud transits but are extremely rare.

Some mk7s had 3.73 axles.

1650mm rings a bell for the transit axle width - the mk1/2/3 axle is narrower than the mk4/5/6/7 ones

you could do with working out what width you need from the wheels your going to use :D

nice project btw 8)
