Anyone lifted a transit.... Proper lifted?

Postby Skut_monkey » Mon Mar 23, 2015 12:01 am

testing the water here as this will determine wether or not i'll get a trannie

Brief background to the idea...

My last 9 motors have all been lifted to some degree.... My hilux's were lifted between 2 inches on springs and 2 on the body ( the smallest) to a 7 inch spring lift with +3 shackles and a 6 inch body lift

Now..... I spotted a transit a few years back in some boy racer magazine that had a massive pioneer sound system and what looked like 35 inch tyres

Guess who wants a monster transit.... Me

Are there any details / kits / info out there regarding a jack up kit to get proper tyres under it?

I started looking at the idea of a county but parts are getting harder to find
Now the idea is rwd and just keep it street legal instead of going mudding in it

Now.... Looking at that picture, it would appear to have a secondary chassis but....

If its got a solid front axle with leaf springs on tne front, i could easily change them for a set of custom profiled leaves and bolt them straight in ( you can lift a mk3 hilux in an afternoon)

The difficult bit would be extending the steering arm and brake bias to suit

So im looking at

Reprofiled springs
Extended brake lines
Rework steering box and bias valve
Odds and sods to finish it off

Seems as easy as my old trucks, this could be a fun build if it pulls together

After digging around, the wagon im looking at will be a mk3 lwb

Minibus or crew bus, not too fussy as the back will be boarded out

As long as theres 7 seats in the back, im happy

How bad does the mk3 rust? Or am i wasting my time with it?

Mk3s rust badly.... but nowhere near as badly as the later ones.

There are still a few reasonable mk3 lwb vans about
