laquer not going hard

Postby trannydenz » Sun May 17, 2015 11:16 pm

been doing little project over the last few weeks, mk 6 transit mini skip truck, ive done the front end conversion to mk 7 and had the cab painted metallic toffee brown and thought id do the front bumper myself and the sport kit, all was going well till i put the laquer on (through a gun), like a di$khead i didnt know to put hardener in it, the bumper and sport kit has been by the radiator for the last 5 hours and is still very tacky, any advice on how to remove tacky laquer

Oh dear :-( i have lacquer still in the tin years old and still fluid.

Not really sure what to suggest but I'd make more lacquer with hardener and spray over it and hope that the new stuff wets up the old stuff and the hardener mixes, otherwise you'll have to get a bowl of thinners and rub the lacquer off which will be very sticky and messy and will take your metallic paint off and be a nightmare :-(
I see you did this yesterday, is the lacquer still wet or like Jam now? :-(

it seems dryer than what it was yesterday but not dry enough to rub down the 'orange peel' as the laquer hasnt covered properly, ill try and leave them a few days, either that or like you said ill try the thinners and load of rags, peed off it took me all day and i messed it up with the laquer, oh well at least ill know for next time

We all learn by it I've done my fair share of oopses over the years, luckily only killed the 1 person but it's OK because nobody liked them anyway

Applying another coat while the other isn't properly dry might cause it to crack over time. If you want to do it properly id be starting over.

I love that place, im like a big kid when im down there looking for bits

What paint and lacquer did you use? I used Halfords diamond white (great match) and primer and lacquer from spraywell (used to be jawels paints) in Dudley.
