tddi into mk5

Postby ffsagain » Wed Jul 15, 2015 12:09 pm

I all I'm thinking of converting my 2.5 mk5 into 2.0 tddi purely because of the noise the 2.5 makes I'm not going tdci as you have to program injectors (which I have the software to do it) but it just makes it more complicated. Can anyone see any probs I may face, I can make any mounts and stuff like that it's just the wiring. I'm thinking my best bet is to buy a rusty mk6 and swap the hole wiring loom. What's people's thoughts, and has any one done it
Cheers all

2.0 is a FWD, so surely you would be better fitting a 2.4 RWD :?:

Use the 2.4 as its rwd

You could also use a fully mechanical injection pump (so no additional wiring)

The mk5 gearbox won't mate to the mk6 engine, and the mk6 gearbox will put the gearstick under the handbrake.

So, if you can sucessfully mate the mk5 gearbox with the mk6 engine and get the clutch to work properly then there isn't a lot to stop you.

I was
planning on using the mk6 gearbox aswell but if it comes under the hand brake that could be a problem lol
What is a fully mechanical pump. Like on mk5??

Yep, it's been mastered, see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=137262, a long thread, but it tells the story of development, and a bit of controversy from some who were/are opposed to the idea. It works well, no wiring or electronics required. :D

Well, I like the conversion idea, but I feel that it hasn't been fully thought out/discussed.

My thoughts;
You want to fit a tddi engine to a MK5 = good, I'd like to see one done.

The suggestion to convert it to a manual pump = doesn't make any sense, as this is the bit that makes all the noise :!:  (the reason for your conversion in the first place)

I've personally known of both quiet and noisy Bosch mechanical pumps. So I would have though it would have been a case of finding a quiet/er pump for your di

If it was me and wanted to go ahead with this conversion, I'd be looking for a complete running van (tddi), with a quiet running engine/pump and transfer the whole lot :)
Yes, the gearstick may interfere with the handbrake, so you'll have to decide to crank it and or "adjust" the handbrake, or have an adapter plate made to accommodate the MK5 box.

Whatever you decide, good luck with the conversion and I look forward to whatever you decide and how it works out :)

Cheers for the input, tddi makes more horses and more importantly more torque and the pumps are on the hole quiter.
Plans are afoot to keep the di gearbox
