custom built chassis rules

Postby Guy88 » Thu Mar 31, 2016 8:30 pm

Does anyone know the regs for a replacment chassis that i build myself?

its on my MK1 thats been chopped about so making a full replacment may be an option i go for,

not worried about an IVA etc, but it has to keep the original reg number or an age related one

basically going to make the chassis out of box section and use bolt on MK5 chassis cab hangers for the axle, this will allow me to mount prop bearings etc to suit the v8 and also make it ready for air suspention

You can re chassis a Land Rover but that's normally like for like
I believe if you modify it your suppose to re register it
It depends on how legit you wanna be as iv seen all sorts that been heavily modified so it should be re iva'd but there not so it's up to you ??
just follow the onscreen instructions and it's fairly idiot proof...trouble is, we keep producing better idiots

I'm sure there's still a test like an iva or sva it would need to go through and you would possibly loose the original plate I recon DVLA will tell you they will need to see it once it's done and will reel you if some junk that won't make sense !
If your gonna ring them do it first thing in the Morning iv always got straight through if iv not rang them early I'm normally on hold for ages and at £1 something a min it gets expensive !

Just keep quiet about it all.
DVLA will make it impossible to register for the road and evrn if they do you will lose the rrg snd tsx exempt status!
Also will br impossible to get insurance for it...
Evrn trader's will knock it bsck.

Did you get anywhere with finding out the legality of this guy88?

I always thought the chassis was the identity of the vehicle and the rest was on a points system so as long as you had a certain amount of original components you could do what you like, but then what happens with all the professional chassis extensions or replacements like the alko ones bolted to boxer/relay/ducato's as I am sure they aren't inspected.

No IVA needed on light commercials over 10 years old,

the way i see it im not modifying the chassis, im restoring it, thats what il tell them if i get stopped

Most of the people who will see the chassis probably don't know what a mk1 chassis looks like anyway. N
