Mk7 badgeless front bumper/ grill

Postby Del Boy » Tue Nov 22, 2016 10:52 pm

I've never liked the great big badge on the mk7
front bumper/grill.

So I decided it was time for it to go..

I picked up the sacrificial grill/bumper on eBay for £40,,,,
Chopped out the bits I required, then bit the bullet
And cut the badge off my good grill.....
Made some templates and cut some bits to fit and plastic welded them in with a 25w soldering iron.. Once welder and secure, I dressed the joints down, smoothed over with a touch of filler, primed and painted it.....
Just to do the grill bit that goes behind now....
The goal is to have looking factory when done..

I'll post up some before and after pics once it's completed....

Hi del boy,

I like what you've done and I'm wanting to do similar on my van which I picked up yesterday. Can you let me know what spraying equipment you have please, the last thing I spray painted were bicycle frames using cans of spray paint and Id like to do some proper painting/spraying. If you can provide any guidance Id be grateful.

Cheers

Hi there,
I use a devilbiss finishline spray gun...
But don't let that put you off, a good quality finish can be achieved with rattle cans......
As always, preparation is key.....

All the best

I cut a piece out of the donor grille and plastic welded it in...it's practically invisible.....you need to look very close to see the join...
