if your using rattle cans then don't expect it to last more than a few months

first you need to use a plasticiser on the cleaned bumpers then 3-4 coats of high build primer , once this has fully dried flatten off the paint to get as smooth as possible
then 2-3 coats of base coat follower by clear lacquer

any thing less I'm afraid will look a bit poo and flake off

Hi Guys,

I've been told that Hammerite spray sticks to anything.

Do we think it will work on bumpers, mine look pretty naff.

Regards,

Paul.

I once sprayed my keepers helmet with hammerite hammered finish and it stuck to that but that was fibreglass, I used pound shop primer on my bumpers think it was 151 or means, been on 3 years now (with top coat) the biggest challenge is getting it clean, I used sugar soap prior to painting (its what I had to hand). Hi Guys,

Following up on my post from March 2017.

I took the plunge and bought some Silver Hammerite spray cans.

Cleaned up the bumpers with hot water and washing up liquid and left them to dry.

Sprayed loads of thin coats (about 4 or 5) and that was it.

About a year later they still look good, don't seem to have chipped and definitely no peeling or cracking, I'm very pleased with the results.

Luckily the Silver Hammerite is almost exactly the same colour as my Van, so from any more than a couple of feet away it looks perfect.
