Ford Transit EK Basis L3, 3.5t how to make it lighter

Postby beerguy » Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:30 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know how much the dropside truck bed weighs? I want to take it off to gain more load capacity.
A customized bed of some of sort will need to be fabricated to handle two 800 kg beer tanks. Capacity now is 1250.

You'd need a 430 model as a base vehicle. The dropside bed wouldn't weigh 400kg. Plus you'd need to add back some weight for the new bed.

You *might* just get away with it - but your custom frame will have to be super light.

Always thought bare chassis cabs weighed around 1600/1700kg

Hi, sorry for the long absence. Another model vehicle is not an option. This 3.5t vehicle is currently being operated at highway speeds at a weight of approximately 3.9t, but not by me. I refuse to do that. The truck bed part code is BK315D042FAA. All I know is that it is made in Turkey, but I cannot find a weight for it. I am hoping that removing it and using half a tank of gas will get the weight to within design parameters.
As for adding weight, the empty tanks weigh 245kg each. How much weight is needed?

Be better with a single rear wheel l3 t350 cab and chassis that'll give you extra load capacityas it's a lighter vehiclefrom get go
