the bottom is open so the bar can be fitted while the axle is in place :D

i think they should be plenty strong enough and also be able to take a bit of abuse from speed ramps and kerbs etc.

after a short break i'm carrying on with this

need to get em fitted for north weald 8) 8)

this is the bar that drops down from the chassis the top is touching the underside of the floor and the sides rest against the chassis and the idea is its welded up to give it some strength  theres also another bit (not pictured) that triangulates this bit so it doesnt flex ..... well thats the idea :D and the link bar will fit in the end the reason it's not flat all the way across is so and stones etc. wont get stuck in it :D this is actually mk1 the 2nd set ive made are fully open but thicker sides - not sure which is best :)

I am struggling a bit with this thread. Why are you experimenting with this bar here/this bar there when a 5 link rear axle is what you are all aiming for. On your axle casing a pair (each side) of brackets to' hold' a pair of bushed longtitudinal rods, one above the axle centre line ,one below, going forward to chassis brackets that (ideally) are mounted so forward facing arms are parallel (don't have to be the same length,
lower one is usually longer) , they prevent the leaf spring 'wind-up', which is the begining of the 'tramp' sequence (wheel going up & down), then a bar (Panhard rod) going (about) horizontally from left to right to prevent the 'soft' rubber bushes 'giving' and allowing the axle to move sideways.

i'm just after stopping the axle winding up - it's not a handling issue :D

if i fit 4 link bars i'd need to take it off the leaf springs surley :? :?:

Hi Luke
Sorry I miss the 'take it off' the leaf spring.Take what off the leaf spring, if you mean the anti-tramp arm bracket they will need to be a 'reasonable/viable' distance above/below the axle centreline. Alternatively why would you take the leaf springs off ?,. They are the 'suspension' medium. You could use the spring as one of the 'arm links' but obviously it would have to be utilised as a lower link one side and an upper link on the other. Which is why most people having decided they need a 5 link rear axle set up go for coil overs.

Luke
When you are sitting drawing circles on your pad don't forget to to 'dial' in the propshaft rotation.
the further the tramp bars pivots are above/below the half shaft centre line the less 'violent' the forces applied.
Enjoy

quite hard to get a good pic but this is how the drop down link is fixed up against the chassis - very strong :D the top of the box section is capped off to stop water getting inside - at the moment they are in primer but i'll paint em black in a bit :D
