After Reading the Hole thread i am just wondering about this.
Will any parts from an 72-85 ford granada be useble on the front of a 71 transit.
I know it will need to be some mods done.
But i have a lot of granada spares an it would save a lot of cash.
Thinking about stering rac (power stering) and spindles ( disc breaks)
Maybe it is posdible to put in the Hole front suspensjon ?
Tjanks fore any reply

Luke,

I see this thread has generated a lot of chatter. So, apologies for adding to it.

Are there only the four photos of your conversion on here? Because reading the thread implies there are more somewhere. But, I can't find them.

I'm planning to do the conversion on my SWB Mk1, so any information, hints or tips will be greatly appreciated.

thats all of them im afraid - i did the conversion before the days of camera phones so it wasn't as convenient to take photos

anything you want to know just ask :D

hints and tips do its just like ive done (on the 2nd one) but copy brownysv6's idea with the rear mounts using a captive nut in box section welded over the chassis rail - thats the only thing i plan to change on mine only to make it look more 'factory' :D

Luke,

The only things that concern me at the moment are the camber and castor angles, and how to get them correct.

I haven't got a donor vehicle yet. I'm sure there'll be many more questions once I do.

Thanks,

Colin

when i did it donors were more plenty-full so i used a scrap front frame and welded it together while it was on the donor van (fit new bushes 1st) then chop it out

Image
this was all scrapped after i used it

even if i had one van i'd still do this just fit new shocks after then clean up the parts i'd welded to

this will get the top mounts in the exact position - the camber will be spot on and the castor will set its self - you cant really get it wrong :D

Luke,

That's excellent, thanks.

I've found a van (through this site), but it doesn't have power steering, which is something I want.

I was wondering whether it could be fitted afterwards? Providing, of course, that I can get a power steering rack.

Colin

yes exactly the same mounts etc. pas rack will just bolt on
only thing to be careful of is the pas rack is wider on the base of the column so if your swapping an engine in then better to get the pas rack before you mount anything close to it

Luke,

Did you weld any other plates other than those from the shock to the subframe before you removed the IFS from the donor?

And perhaps a stupid question but did you weld them while it was resting on it's wheels? I guess yes?

Cheers Enzo

Ok. I'm going to try to weld the plates while it's on it's wheels.

Do the strut tops have that much play, so you had to replace them with solid ones to get them in the right place?

basically i was fitting new strut tops anyway as there was a slight bit of wear so i just welded them up but you dont need to if they are good

Ok. Thanks Luke.

Just going to check the track width of the donor mk5 (96-00) and if that is close enough to my mk1 I'm going for it.
