2.5di engine in a Mk 6 transit rwd van

Just a ideal here.. I like the look of the newer shape transits but the engines are rubbish has there is loads being scrap cos the engines have gone. Now today my friend had one come into his yard it had the 2.2dci duratorque rwd engine in it. I was wondering if it be possible to fit a normal or shall i say a proper 2.5 di engine and box in it. I presume you have to have propshaft change to fit the gearbox and still used the prop. I would also change the full wiring loom from fuse box to engine and just reconnect the auxliary wires together so i am using the loom out of the older van. I just wonder if anyone has consider doing this and if so what would need to be a major change.

Just an idea, has i fancy putting the front bumper and grille on my mk5 transit.

Yes it may seem silly but how many 2.5di engines do you see broken and knackered in the scrap yards. My friend owns a scrapyard and people are scrapping there mk 6`s and 7`s vans due to the engine being busted and too dear to fix from day to day. I just thought a good old di engine maybe ideal replacement has i would used the van for a camper and dont fancy any big fuel burning engine in it.

Like i said it`s just a thought. Just wondered.

If you're going to try this, you need to find a 2.4 RWD van, as the 2.2 is FWD

cant beat a Di for reliability - might be unrefined but end of the day whats important to you

Thats the whole point boss, the MK6s are quicker than (Most but not all) smilies, apart from anything else the Duratorq revs to 4800 rpm, the Di only revs to 4000 rpm, and it will only be as reliable as quality of the installation

Turbo Di with a Bosch manual pump, hardly any wires and no ECU mumbo

I think it's a good idea, I would sure like to put my 2.5Td in to a Mk6. The crap engine life on a Mk6 was one of the reasons I got a Mk5.

This has been done before.
It is a good idea but there is a lot of work to do.
A duratorq engine will cost over £1000.
I have a customer that has a mk6 and the block is cracked. I did the head gasket on it the head was pressure tested etc but the price of a new engine is worth more than what the van is.
I am debating whether I buy the van off him and put a 2.5td in it.
I am a mechanic and I bought my smiley because I know the engines!
I give this advice to anyone buying a newer ford diesel.
When they are running right they are the best diesel engines but when (not if) they go wrong they will cost a fortune to replace.
How much is a dmf? They go all the time!
Injectors on a new tranny have to get coded
Fuel pumps are ridiculously over priced.

My engine may be slow but if the cambelt snapped it would be back on the road the same day!

Tddi don't need the injectors coded Tdci pumps arn't that expensive Tddi pumps are coming down in price and seperate parts are more available dmf's have got better and you can do solid conversions ! Mk7's are different again and have a much better Denso fuel system, yeh they all can go wrong and need more diagnostic equipment but more than make up for it with the performance the drive and the economy ! There's some guys on here that do some pretty lengthy Euro trips so need reliability that's why there running some pretty smart mk7's oh and on some quite high milage too
