Postby BROWNYS V6 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 6:00 pm

im toying with the idea of putting a granada scorpio irs rear end up the back of my mk2 rustbucket :) need to check the width but........
the fors are;
limited slip diff
disc brakes
convert to coil over, easy to get nice an low :wink:
also my alloys that i bought to put on the mk3 will bolt straight on :D
the againsts are;
loads of fabrication :(
an i need to buy one :lol:

i reckon theres not as much fab as you think.

they come on a subframe that sits very tight to the car, i would be suprised if there isnt plenty of room on a tranny to create a mounting frame with some box above this and just bolt it to the spring mounts, in a similar way to how the IFS front mounts on the tranny :idea:

they have viscous diffs i think which behave a bit different, but i never had any tramp or squat problems on my granny cossie, you could throw all kinds of abuse at it and it just did its job :!:

i considered it reason i didnt do it was i didnt think it's worth the hassle - the sierra/granny diffs arnt supposed to be that strong - all the big power cossys use quafe stuff (apparantly) and it then gets expensive :( also i wondered about how it would handle :? - a transit is very different to a granada and if it was crap there'd be no easy going back also it's a fair bit narrower :!: so i went for the easy option and stuck a 9" on :lol:

hmm i did wonder how it would handle aswell,narrow track not a problem got 9" wide wheels,an dont think i'll be chewing diffs with a rover engine :lol: if i could mount it right up in back be nice an easy to dump it on the floor :D would'nt have to worry about choppin lumps out me chassis,maybe :lol:

yea the bits are readily available for them ,and cwp's aswell :wink:an yes cheap cheap :)

an then today i got the offer of a pair of 5 stud granny hubs,straight swop for the 4 stud ones on the sierra axle we have at work,which came of an xr4x4 :wink:
i wonder if the offset on the discs is the same on both axles :? granny one is 8mm wider so i have read :) ratio in the sierra diff is 3.62 i think.
