recovery ideas

Hi all, i am looking into getting myself a chassis cab to get running my own recovery service, but i have been looking at the specs on carrying capacities for a 3500kg single chassis cab, the problem is, i think, is the tacho part which i want to avoid and weights to stay below the 3500kg GVW, some vehicles as we know weight near 2000kg so that doesnt give much, well any chance to carry them.


What i am after is a few designs on the recovery bed from steel, i can weld steel fine but my ally welding is a bit dodgy at the minute. The more weight i save the more i can carry...

what about an A frame to tow the vehicles that'd put you over weight? thats what i'm thinking of doing you can get 3.5 tonne capacity ones for about £200

I have used an A frame in the past but they are not fully legal, only for recovery use, i have a shogun that i was going to use with a trailer but then i would still need a tacho due to the weight. Its all a pain the arse this tacho stuff now.

VOSA would thats a crew cab as well thats WELL overweight

Yep exlwb crewcab with a steel body and carrying a Disco Hence me taking a piccie as I knew it would create a giggle

Thats what i was after a design with weights, cheers kida, it dont look like it could be mabe lighter either, what steel size did you use for it mate?

So i am, best to find the chassis cab weight and go from there, it would be good to be able to carry a dicso or other large 4x4 though but no chance here, unless i get a tacho, not that expencive but complicated.
