On a run from Langholm (Scotland) to Bournemouth and back (750 miles), I got 38 mpg.
I also get 30 mpg towing the caravan up and down the West Coast of Scotland, which is pretty amazing considering
there is hardly a flat bit of road! 8)

Locally I get about 35 mpg.

Edit: It's a 1999 swb low roof MK5.

Mk3 beavertail (190 LWB cab-chassis I think that is) with 2.5Di. I got 29.5 mpg with a full load (3.4 tonnes or therabouts) which was frankly amazing. But then it weighs in at a tad under two tonnes which is also quite surprising.

over 15,000 miles used 2015 litres = 33.8mpg :D
in a 99 70ps low roof 120S with 4.56 diff and 195 r14's weighing 2.6 tons on any road types, surfaces and weather conditions you can think of. probably a third of those miles at max GVW - not too shabby
fitted towbar now so i'm waiting for the bills to get bigger
