ex York Transit mechanic

Postby YORK TRANSIT Man » Thu Apr 04, 2013 10:31 pm

Hi all.

I found your website & thought i would drop by, i used to work for W.H.Smith (newsagents) in the late 70's until the mid 80's, i was employed as a mechanic at one of their many workshops throughout the country, unfortunatly in my time there i only managed to photograph one of the Transit's that was on the fleet at the time, it was an facelift MK2 'York' which had a sister of one previous number registration, i am trying to remember the registrations of ones i have worked on & a bit about them & there specification & check the DVLA website to find out their fate? & list the registrations just in case anyone on here or knows who may have one of them?, anyway here is the only photo i have.

unfortunatly i haven't, the only other W.H Smith vehicle i have a photo of is a Leyland 420 FG, there wasn't many Cargo's as the heavier fleet i.e 2 ton upwards were mainly Leyland FG's,Terriers,1 Bedford TK, 'D' series (replaced Terrier's/ 550 FG's ) & those ruddy Dreaded C.F's with that so called 'Opel' diesel engine which spent more time out of the vans than in, they replaced the Transit's in 79/80 as Transit's were in short supply due to i think was Ford strikes??
