Mileage Update.

Postby Dominik1968 » Sat Sep 19, 2015 3:04 pm

Hi Folks. :D

Whilst on the A14 in the early hours of this morning my Mk7 Transit Jumbo clocked up it's 700,000 mile.Thankfully the timings on the run I do are pretty liberal most nights at the moment so I'm able to take my time and set the cruise control to 50mph but even when the van is fully loaded at that speed and going into central London between 6 and 7 in the morning the overall miles per gallon is coming out most days at the very high 30's and often the low 40's.

Regards ~ Dom. :)

Hi AlTransit. :D

Around 200,ooo miles ago I got a job up to Wabtec in Doncaster and when I arrived I noticed that there was a tapping sound from the top of the engine and I booked it into my local Ford garage and they replaced the cams and valves but like I said that was a few miles ago.I always use good quality oil and try to take it easy while the engine is cold, keeping to low revs while driving through the town, letting a little warmth build up before getting out onto the open roads,i think it all helps the engine last longer.

I Punto. :D

Yes one of those bloody Mk7's! To be perfectly honest it has had a few problems.I've had to replace the gearbox three times :| Around 200,000 miles each and partial back axle rebuild earlier this year :( It did last well over 600,000 miles but given the mileage hardly a surprise. It's only ever let me down twice on the road.Once going into Skegness a gearbox went badly wrong and the second time it was the EGR valve.(Only been replaced twice)

Forgot to mention...the front discs needed replacing last week, not happy! Only got 80,000 miles out of them.Latest set of tyres are doing ok,40% worn average having done I think about 50,000 miles

Will it make the million Dom?

Although I'm pretty sure that when the odometer gets to 999,999.9 it stays there!
