Converting minibus to splitter

Postby coolguy420 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 4:33 pm

Hi, I'm looking to buy a van to use as a 9 seat splitter/ tour van. It seems like there's a lot more choice for minibuses with more than 9 seats. Does anybody know what would be required, legally, to convert a minibus into a 9 seater van? Is it as simple as simply taking the extra seats out? My main concern is if I'd need to get the van reclassified and have a new MOT, which could push the costs of buying a second hand van up considerably if it failed for any reason. Thanks in advance.

Take the excess seats out, fill in new number of seats on v5c and send back to DVLA. You need to tell insurance company too (check thisbl out with various companies before buying)

MOT will stay valid, but may be tested as a different category next time.
