Looking for buying Advice, mk7 Sport Van vs Custom?

Postby 1958 harry » Wed Jul 19, 2017 11:06 pm

Looking at getting either a mk7 Transit Sport or a Transit Custom to use as a family daily driver, not a work van.

Currently have 2 vans in mind, an 09 plate (genuine) Transit Sport Van with 68k on or a 13 plate custom with 100k on.

Both are converted to Combi Vans (what I need) and both are similarly priced. The Sport is better spec'd and lower miles but the rust potential worries me, but likewise the higher mileage worries me on the Custom and no AC, but on the other hand the Custom is Euro 5 emissions.

Which is the better buy? What would the good peeps on here go for?

Now then, now then,
You don't want a trampy old mk7
But you don't want a low spec custom either :?
Hope this helps

Not had ether myself but for me it's got to have aircon I am having the same problem at the moment trying to find a m8 jumbo van or bus to build a camper on so I'd have a good look under the sport van and if it was in good nick I'd waxoil the hell or even get it done professionally my current van is 11 years old and I have waxoil it ever year and the mot tester says it's the best one he's seen underbody van the only reason I am going to build another van is if I don't do it now I will never do it

Keep looking. As for mileage, a 100k Custom will feel much better to drive than a 60k MK7. My MK7’s all felt loose after 15-20k, the Customs all still felt like new at that age.

Loose at 20k ? It was only when my old mk7 hit about 140k it got it a bit baggy 185k when we went our separate ways
Its the rust that will kill it mine was an 08 I had to weld it for the last not

Cheers, the sale of my mk2 fell through so missed out on em.

I really like the look of the Sport Van, so probably what I'm gonna go for just need my mk2 to sell first.
