speedo clocking

Postby bigsparks » Thu Dec 28, 2017 5:18 pm

Hi all
its a long story / but looking for any experience out there
bought a nice mk6 motor home of a rugby dealers forecourt price 16K, in xmas 2015
about right for 25k on the clock, internals new for milage shown . just what i needed for europe touring
broke down way home they had tow it back to rugby days later returned to me, / broke down wales tow back/
broke down france not a major alternator shewing belts /
last week i say to MOT mate, sounds not really smooth like i know them ,, he says sounds retarded a bit why lumpy, - - So ok less on big ends then !!-

its be living on injector cleaner to stop a black smoke puff say every 20 miles --- emission test 1.9 (2.00) allowed (dealer says that would go when u run, its been stored)
got me thinking on a 25k engine to find history// 6 owners in book the last number 4 owner had 186k on clock
1 go to dealer letts negotiate say 10k compensation for clapped engine
2 go solicitor
3 letter to council trades department for them to follow up
4 private court claim for full 16k sum

As it was a dealer you should have some come back, but trying to get anywhere will be a different story. Let a solicitor on a no win no fee deal with it
Trading standards = you be lucky to get anywhere
Ask the dealer to pay up = you be lucky
Solictors with court action = you may get something back, specially if you then take it to the high court

Interesting but what if the clocks had been changed due to the mk6 digital clocks having a known fault (plenty on here about that) before the dealership took possession of the van? They would just assume like most of us would that the mileage shown to be correct.

What is your van actually doing fault wise? Have you got the 2.0l tdci? Or 2.4l tddi or 2.4l 135 tdci?. N

I’ve always done a HPI check, and now with the MOT checker makes it more easy.

Remember it’s not just the engine that’s done those miles.

Take it back and demand a full refund, then go and buy something else, and do your homework properly.

If that’s the type of motor they were selling in 2015 be surprised if company still exists and hasn’t had a ownership change(on paper)

I doubt a Motorhome would have such a high mileage.

Why have you waited over a year to ask for help?

You should have gone straight back to me dealer.

As said it's doubtful the owners still exist if that's the

quality of vehicle they dealt in...
