How many of you clean your inlet manifold

Postby stevo » Fri Jan 05, 2018 3:24 pm

So I’ve got a 15 year old mk6 than runs pretty well and isn’t too shabby, however it seems to be a little sluggish and fuel consumption has dropped a little in the 4 years I’ve owned it so I’m thinking of cleaning the inlet manifold first to see what difference it makes. How many of you guys have done this, I know they can get pretty clogged up.

Done mine 3/4 times now in 4 years, a nice long soak in oven pride brings it up nicely. N

Well I was looking at getting a company to do it until I took my van for mot today. Already spent 200 quid on it the other day, looks like it’s gonna cost me even more now. Looks like doing it myself.

T'is a simple job, cleaning the ports at the same time will help with the van breathing, just make sure you have some rubber glove or you'll spend a fortnight cleaning oily crap out of your hands :D N

I’ve heard it’s a messy job and the carbon has to be carefully handled

I've cleaned mine once and it wasn't too bad really compared to some I've seen on here but that may have something to do with the egr being stuck closed

I’ve had my egr blanked off for a few years but recently it’s started to throw a code up so u think either the plate has blown through or the egr itself is faulty. Either way I want to try and clean out the inlet and then look at getting another blanking plate.
