Anti theft door braces

Postby griffo » Mon Mar 19, 2018 8:08 pm

With the spate of thefts from vans where they bend the doors down, side doors seem a common entry point also on Hitop Transits the rear door hinge point is far too low which makes them more sucseptible to attack in this way, so I was prompted to stiffen the doors up with some home made braces.

I got some 1" box section and welded it top middle and bottom of both the rear doors and similarly for the side door, the only real problem I had apart from the unbelievably shitty thin steel the doors are made of was with the side one.

The clerance as the door opened was too tight at nearly fully open for the 1" box to miss the side of the van so I dad to slice the box section open and re weld it together a bit thinner.

I am no fabricator but at the end of the day the doors are far sturdier and I feel slightly happier now when I have to park the van out of my sight!

If I could just get the rear doors to lock 9 times out of 10 instead of 3 times out of 10 I would be much happier.

Best way to test them, continuity and flex the cable or insulation resistance tester?

You could have welded the bars in to the window recess rather than worrying about the clearance
