An extract from an asssesment document of the Budget 2008 by the BVRLA.
"VED for Vans
A measure will be introduced with effect from 1 January 2009, giving incentive for early take up of Euro V Technology diesel vans ahead of mandatory introduction in 2011. The incentive will stay in force for the lifetime of the van."

the doc seems to seperate cars from Vans in terms of VED. (I cant find the link to it any more)

This has been a concern for me as I've just bought my 1st Transit yesterday and paid £185 VED for a 300 MWB Med 2.2 130PS. I read somewhere that the £185 would rise next April to £210 and then increase to, and stay at £310.

The salesman at the Dealer's answer was not to worry as 'this lot' would not be in next time! lol

The problem is 'this lot' have put the legislation into place, and the 'next lot' will probably leave it there. This website shown the upcoming tax for cars, but they don't list vans.

And this bunch of tossers seems to want older vehicles replaced with newer (alledgedly) more efficient models? So Joe Pubic will want to keep his nail longer, because it is cheaper to tax.
How the chuff does that foolow their policies?

A question.

A Toyota Prius needs volts to charge it. Those volts come from the mains, probably a coal fired power station. So does anybody know how much CO2 is produced to do a charge for say 50 miles, compared to how much CO2 for the petrol equivalent of milage?

Exactly! I will only accept electric or hybrid cars are truly environmetally friendly if they are charged by solar power.

I'd like to know what the carbon footprint is to produce one of these cars, compared to a "standard" version :!:  All those extra motors and batteries didn't grow on any tree that I know of :!:

In fact they are worse than regular cars. The prius for example has batteries that are notoriously hard to recycle.

the GREEN lobby are making us aware about how much fuel we can save by reducing our speed. Helpful aren't they...

How long before some numpty suggests compulsary speed limiters.

The DVLA Vehicle licensing site http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk reports: -

Date of Liability 01 10 2008
Date of First Registration 31 10 2007
Year of Manufacture 2007
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2198CC
CO2 Emissions 0g/Km
Fuel Type Heavy Oil
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour WHITE
Vehicle Type Approval N1
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £99.00
12 Months Rate £180.00

Any idea what type approval 'N1' means?
cheers
I'd appreciate it if you could post your reg number to the site and see what it says in comparison. I'll PM you a link to what i'm buying. It's still not too late to back out of the deal.

Just spoken to a nice young lady in the DVLA who said that to get the £120 VED, the Euro V engine had to be an LGV registered between 1/3/03 and 31/12/06. Outside these dates the VED would be £180 for LGV's.

Another stealth tax me thinks.

Thanks GB.

Although according to the Budget 2008 report from the BVRLA, the Gov are thinking of giving a 'discount' to Euro V engined vehicles. So its anyones guess what we might be paying in the future. We may even have to be greatful for them reducing it back to the level it was before. (i.e. the £120) lol. And that 'is' going to happen. NOT (and be a vote winner NOT)

lol

There's too much tinkering, me thinks.

Isn't LGV 3.5 tons and above, not transits? 3.5 ton transits are PLG
