I find it totally depends on how heavy yer right foot is - mine's a 2.5 non-turbo diesel and came back from Inverary to Chesham (over 500 miles) on about half a tank, which was f***ing amazing, but obviously thirstier round town and caning it. There's not much to shout about when you put your clog down either - ex-BT van, might have been set up for economy!

Hmmmmm - New to a 95 2.5di LWB 15 seat minibus but don't get anything like those figures guys! Just came back from regular Cambridge run (yes, Xmas day!) and only get about 22mpg generally and that's empty with 9 seats out. Didn't cane it either. Could it be something wrong? Only get about 75 max out of ''HER'' on the flat with black smoke if I DO give it a bit.
Any tinkering to be done?
Comments would be appreciated after lunch :D

my old works LWB pickup used to give high 20's being caned everywhere and mostly loaded up!!
how are you measureing it? and is the speedo accurate? 75 max speed isn't too far out tho!!

Our 94 LWB high top 2.5di gets about 350-400 miles out of a full tank at £60, depending on whether it's rural or town driving - a LOT less on the motorway - high top might be the culprit there.

I've been told my tranny should get upper 30 to early 40 mpg if I drive it right, is this true as I've yet to really work out the true MPG, havnt had the need to fill her right up yet but Im sure it will do better than my AUDI A6 2,6 estate which is not bad at +/- 36mpg

Mine's a 94 L reg pre-smiley, pencil injector, I reckon its fantastic on fuel, it rarely seems to drop much below 40mpg.

Interestingly, I've now done a fair few miles in the last month. The consumption had seemed to level out at about 25 mpg, but my last tank full was Shell Optimax and refilling today gave 30 mpg on the same roads and same speeds as previously. I'm trying anothe tank full to see if I get similar results. I know that Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate makes my bike run a lot smoother but with no difference in fuel consumption. I remember reading a report in some car magazine a while ago that said certain vehicles would benefit more than others from these fuels. I used BP Ultimate Diesel in the old Norwegian minibus and like the bike it made a difference to performance but not to fuel consumption.

i find the shell optimax good stuff lots more mpg and performance but that bp ultimate is useless in my van it really seems to drink it and belches black smoke a bit like the supermarket fuels

I'll agree with you on the BP junk, not near as good as the Shell stuff.
