None of the warning lights on our dashes are an MOT requirement, but I would still like to know what they tell me! As I said, you WOULD like to know if you had no brake fluid, wouldn't you? It doesn't mean to say these lights are a legal requirement.

You dont need a light to let you know

If you do regular under hood check ups and the only time it will happen suddenly is if an object hits a line or the line bursts

If an object was to hit the underside of the car hard enough to bust a line one would tend to stop to see if any damage had been caused

If a line where to burst it would only happen under pressure or while your pushing the brake peddal, you would feel the line burst and the peddal would go to the floor
So the light is only going to tell you something thats going to be obvious in a few seconds

But i will have a look if there is a switch on the master cyl

FredTransit wrote:No sockets on the loom for warning lights!? I have checked the owner's manual (for the phase2, so don't know if this applies to the phase1) and the warning lights are L-R, low vacuum (servo fault), dual brake warning (low fluid), and cold start (diesels only). The last one I didn't know about cos we only have 1 factory diesel, and it now has a late Di with no glow plugs.

L-R two possibilities 1)brake split circuit balance(red) 2)indicator warning when tachograph fitted(green) i cant remember which one was in the optional left warning light block and which was in the normal right hand block

low vacuum only aplicable to diesels (separate vacuum pump)

cold start only phase 1 with york (phase 2 di had no glowplugs only a optional flame plug which didnt have a warning light)

low flud warning depends on country.

Sundowner stripes should be ready in a couple of weeks! Better get your van sorted so you have something to stick them to :)
I have made a list of all the known Sundowners, and there are 16 that I know of, including yours. One or two on the list are only good for scrap. Most need some or a lot of work. Only 1 has been restored that I know of.
