Yeah i got the rust for no extra charge if thats what you mean by rust free

Its got 4 bad areas where the rust has really taken hold
above the passenger door this section is completly gone
above the side door and the passenger side top rear corner
and the forward front spring mount

Appart from these areas and some small holes about the size of a pin head its all good steel

Wierd, I have never know Mk2s rust in these places! Usually they go on the sills, bottom of the doors, and in later stages around the windscreen. has she already had some work?

No previous body work has been done and it was rust proofed from the factory

But for some reason there was a peice of sponge in each section above the doors just where it joins to the A pillar trapping moisture and promoting rust

WOW thats bad rust :o

I normally wouldnt go for a body that has rust holes and if it wasnt a Sundowner (very rare) it would be going to the crusher

Did any of the vans over there have 9 inch diffs factory fitted? as my one does

nice hole Luke

i know how to fix those, it involves a piece of 4mm tread plate to recreate the floor and then a nice piece of 1.5mm Galv beaten into shape to fit the arch .... yes i have done one like that and have the other to do shortly, when welded together should be able to jack me van up on that section alone :P

nice looking van you have there btw, and looks in reasonable condition, yes i have seen that foam before, and am not sure what it does (except cause rot problems :(
interesting anti rollbar you got there on the front, and what is that cross member :? looks like you have some major differences in the front chassis legs and layout

i particularily like that removable transmission tunnel section ... thats usefull

tell your wife she's a spoil sport ... hehehehe

and yeah i like that spoiler, very tidy looking

Hey Mk2PV, never mind Germany, get yerself off to Oz, at least the steering wheel is on the right side!
Sundowner, I am well impressed with the spec, like Mk2PV said, what should have been in the back, or was she just empty (more room for the surfboards!)?
