High miles a worry?

Postby dcwuk » Thu Oct 04, 2012 11:31 pm

Hi all
I am looking to buy a bigger van to replace my connect and wonder should I be concerned at the high mileage on some of the vans I see for sale.(100-167k)
I only want to spend around £4k
What about big fuel petrol/LPG vans ?
Thanks
Dcw

Don't know about the petrol engines, but the diesels are capable of very high mileages :)

My Mk6 had 157k when I bought it in February, and I've done another 10k since then, with no problems

Got my "55" 100 mk6 with 176k on the clock,now just topped 188k.
Recently replaced the clutch kit, flywheel, both front wheel bearings, oil and filter, discs and pads,
both coolant hoses from oil cooler, cleaned out inlet and replaced rubbers, rear drums and shoes,
EGR,fixed a fuel leak and an oil leak, air and fuel filters..........and now the alternators noisy!
Typical all this needs doing after i,ve spent money on colour coding, alloys,ICE etc........

You take a chance with any motor with high miles.I suppose that at a van with mega miles will have been looked after well otherwise it probably wouldnt have reached high miles.

That's about the same as Apollo 11 - very impressive. Is it reasonable to expect a well looked after engine to do 250k then?
