Hunt for a replacement to my 2000 hiace continues,

Heading to a dealer tomorrow to check out a few more fords, one that is on my list to check out is a 2013 330 140 FWD.

Dont know so much about transits, but was wondering what if anything is physically different between say a 260 and a 330? I know the 330 can carry more weight but is it at the cost of fuel economy/ gear ratios? stiffer suspension? any issues more common with the 330?

Also on the list to check is 2010 260 sportsvan and a a few other SWB 260's from 2010 onwards that im going to look at.
The 330 has double sliding doors which I find really useful.

Any tips, advice, knowledge shared etc, much appreciated.

I believe the 2013 140 FWD will be Euro-V whereas the earlier machines will probably be Euro-IV.

A lot will depend on your load requirements, if you don't need to carry a decent load go for the 260-280 etc...Fuel economy will be fairly similar for all of them, the engines are pretty much the same throughout, 2.2 or 2.4 ....you can get a SWB low roof 260 2.4 140 RWD, these go like stink too...or you can get 140 350 RWD LWB High roof, same engine, similar fuel economy if maintained well.

Obviously if the engines are the same the lighter machines will get better fuel economy but there's not a great deal between them.

So the 330 is 3300kgs total weight, 260/2600 , 280/2800 and so on.
The actually amount you can carry in each van differs depending if it fwd or rwd, long wheel base or short etc etc.

If you go for rwd the diff can vary and make a difference on mpg etc.

Think the fwd has two different diffs .

Always test drive on motorway to see how high the revs are at 70mph, my van is on just over 2k for reference.

Also rwd have higher floor space in the back so if you want more head height get a fwd although they torque steer and rattle and are generally poo.
(My opinion only :oops: )

ITs all a case of what they have on the forecourt as i dont have the cash to buy new, After driving my RWD hiace for years i've really noticed the difference when testing FWD vans, and i prefer the feel of RWD on the roads. The only saving grace i have for FWD is that it handles the snow and ice better hear in Sweden. That said I do love driving in a straight line with the van at a nice 45 degree angle..so much so i was a bit gutted when i got new nokian hakkapeliitta winter tyers with studs, was real battle to get the arse end out after.

Those studded tyres are awesome - had a hire car with them on in Iceland a couple of years ago. I don't think I'd be here now it it wasn't for those tyres!

I know it's not in the same league, but I was on a campsite on Gower in Wales earlier this week in three days of torrential rain. Every van and motorhome trying to leave had to be towed out by the campsite tractor - except for us. My new Nokian Weatherproof C mud and snow rated tyres didn't even spin once, just drove over the gloop like it was dry tarmac.
