Confused about engines

Postby Amlocks » Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:02 pm

How can I tell when shopping for Transits what engine is installed? I have looked at the photo thread here.

The 2.4ltr diesels are 90PS, 120PS and 125PS. Naturally I want the most powerful but how can I tell when inspecting the van. Presume the plate near passenger door carries info but is it clear? Can the lower power be remapped to decent spec or are the components different?

The two 2.0ltr turbo diesels are 75PS and 100PS. Is the intercooler easy to spot?

Is the 2.3ltr dual fuel engine reliable?

I currently run a Doblo van with 105PS and do not want to have less power on a bigger heavier van. Some Transits go flying past me up hills or motorways but there seems no relevance to the load rating. Normally I carry 0.5 to 0.7tonne in the back. Mixed driving urban and motorway.

Many thanks

Having driven a Doblo they are quick, but they have that horrible turbo lag which is the same as the scudos. Hateful vans i think, any Transit would be better than a doblo matem much smoother and nicer to drive and lots more comfortable too.

I suppose the size depends on how much you are gonna carry, pointless having a high top if you not gonna use it.
Like you've listed, there is plenty of choice.

Cheers, I run two Dobbies, one close to 200000 and mine at 215000 miles. The driving position is wonderful but I need something bigger. Already into the throwing money at them stage so want a lower mileage but can only stretch to £5000 tops.
Been looking at Transit due to availability, parts, price, perceived reliability.
A low roof SWB is bigger than I really need, a Connect too small.
Want a bit of power though.

The easiest way to see what engine output in a van is to put the reg no into http://www.ford.etis.com

You also get a 135 ps 2.4, and a 125 ps 2.0, both of these are tdci, so faster and better on fuel :)
