Hi all.
I'm new and seeking some advice regarding buying and converting a Transit.
I'm a builder with a family of 3 who are expecting our next child in august I am looking to buy a 2000+ (It has to be LEZ compliant), mk6 280/300 low/med roof Transit on a budget [<£1500], with the intention of converting it into a modified crew van (& work horse) before my baby boy is born. I did have a firms van until the boss decided he needed to sell it , so as you can imagine saving for a baby and buying or making a suitable vehicle that I can use for work isn't easy... What I need some help with, is:
Which engine should I buy? I was thinking of buying the most powerful engine I could, but is this essential? Would it be cheaper to buy a 75ps model and just swap bits off a 115ps engine? Also should I try and get a 2.0/2.4 TD, 2.0 TDDI or 2.0 TDCI engine? I do like the idea of going back to rwd (like the good old days! ) but realise this might be even more expensive.
Eventually I'm planning on:
Performance. I'm hoping to fit an exhaust, filter (& maybe bits off a more powerful engine), before sending it to vantuner, someone who seems to be regarded as a legend on this site.
Conversion. Can I fit the front or middle seats from a tourneo into the middle of the transit? how about door cards? (I guess the different wheelbases have differnt side door widths?), with racking in the back, before fitting some diy side windows & ICE.
Visuals. Alloy wheels (any supplyers you can recomend?), wheel arche extensions, bull bars & spots, side skirts, Body colour bumpers and a re-spray...

FOR SALE
...I've got to get rid of my Blue 1997 Ford Escort GTi, 1800cc, 3dr. Yes it's really a GTi, with half leather interior. It's got a performance back box, panel filter and something has been done to the cams (was done before I bought it). I'm selling it with the original 15" ford alloys and an aftermarket 15" set.
It starts and runs absolutely fine but It's out of MOT, and will require a door handle, a steering wheel and a small amout of welding to the rear in order to pass. There is no point in me selling it as something it's not as I'll just get flamed on here. lol.
I bought it as a project, but due to losing my works van and my misses expecting, it's no longer a viable option.
