newbie here! should I buy this mega miler??!!

Postby jimbo1122 » Fri Dec 12, 2014 9:07 pm

Hi all, I'm new here, day to day I drive a vw t5 (shame on me).
My business is expanding and I am looking for a cheap tipper -a good mk 5 would be perfect! But I have a 2000 mk 6 going through my local auction worth a whopping 288k. It's been owned by a local roadworks firm.
The thing is, when I popped the bonnet it has had recent mann filters, the oil is clean, and it starts on the button and runs clean.
It is pretty rough and filthy but is going for about a grand, should I avoid at all costs or do you think it might be worth a punt?
Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Any service history or old mots? Its a massive mileage but if it drives ok and the chassis isnt rotten then it might be worth a punt. Dunno if id pay a grand though, it is a bit steep for something thats done such high mileage. If its the original engine too then it must have been looked after to get so far.

Just v5 and mot, it's not rotten anywhere -maybe all the year has kept it at bay.
Also, there is some squeaking from the pas pump, maybe to much of a risk??
Finding it very hard to find anything half decent for reasonable money!! May have to go for banana engined ldv??

Have a good look on gumtree, vans are cheaper on there than ebay.
In regards to the pas pump, it wouldnt cost alot to get that fixed, at worst its a new pump, belt and tensioner, not mega money.
