90 280 to buy or not to buy

Postby vajracitta » Sun Jan 25, 2015 1:13 pm

hi all,new here,im about to buy my first transit, was after an old smiley banana but have come on a 2003 90 280 rwd manual fuel pump,i test drove it and it is a tight driving yoke,2 worries,1, the heater plug light is flashing on aand off when driving,i did search on the site and found a few answers, like perhaps injectors or perhaps egr valve or something else, forget now!!, is there a definitive answer to this problem or is it something not to worry about too much? ,secondly ,the mileage, she has done around 220 thousand miles, she was ex hire so you would think she should have been well serviced etc, the seller tells me this is nothing for these engines, but then he would if he is trying to sell it to me, oh, and the airbag light is on, not really worried about that(should i ?) that could be put out i guess, all suggestions /help much appreciated, thanks

Flashing glow plug indicates fault codes stored, fault codes need reading to diagnose

Could be throttle pedal £90
Fuel pump £650
Or lots in between

thanks ake n bjt, sack o shite? bit tatty alright ,but driving good, luckily i dont care what a yoke looks like as long as its going good, and it does seem to drive well,i was chatting to a friend about the fuel pumps going on them that i had heard about, seems the manual pumps dont give as much bother as the electronic set up,is this fact?, not worried about the airbag light, she has a test as she is,what about the high mileage? would that put anyone else off, without the flashing light on i would probably take a chance on it

It has an electronically controlled pump and mechanical injectors. If it a decent van you can change to a mechanical fuel pump, as supplied by dieselhead123, but it costs a few quid, so the van has to be worth spending money on!
