good buy bad buy??

Postby sunshine » Sun May 03, 2015 7:51 pm

Hi, :) just viewed a 1999 transit 230 td lwb ex council minibus priced at £3,000. Looking to convert to a camper van.
It has new mot but a list of advisories..... 1. Power steering pipes /hoses slightly corroded
2. Front (both)brake discs worn, pitted or scored but not seriously weakened (3.5.11)
3. Front lower anti-roll bar rubber bush deteriorated but not excessive movement (2.4.2g)
4. Front lower anti-roll bar has slight play (2.4.g2)
5. Front brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.b2)
6. Play in steering rack inner joints.
7. Knock in steering.
Any ideas on a rough price parts and labour to remedy the above ? or walk away ?
Any advise appreciated. Thank you :)

Bit pricey imo, but everything is a bit pricey imo :)

Keep in mind its a 230, so is over 3500kg.. Can't be driven on a normal car license after '97 i think it was.

With the MOT stuff:

- Check condition of the power steering and brake pipes. Being a council bus they will have been picky.
- Discs are an easy change and don't cost the earth. Add a mechanics time and your talking 2 hrs labour if all goes well.
- Roll bars are nothing to be concerned about as long as they aren't hanging off.

- Steering rack on the other hand... Sounds like a bit of work needs to be done...

Thanks for your reply Kedishen, that's just what i needed to here.
I thought a realistic price for this bus should be roughly £2,000 just wasn't sure on the advisories and i'm guessing a figure of around £400 to sort steering?
just picked that figure out of the air...
do you think it would cover it?
