Mk6 100 ps Transit

Postby wredas » Sun Jun 05, 2016 7:54 pm

Hello!

My name is Rasmus and I'm from Sweden. I am currently looking for a van and have only been looking at two vans yet, both transits. One 2005 that was very rotten, and one 2001 100 ps that I really like. I can't find any problems with it, looks great on the outside and drives good. Has some things recently changed to it like front wheel alignment, front wheel bearings, front brake discs and pads, engine temperature transmitter in the head, wire for the gear shifter, oil/filter and renovated AC.

The seller tells me it has a cam chain and that I should not worry about that? Sadly I'm certainly not a mechanic so I don't know what more to ask or check on the van. Mechanical it sounds good and drives good but the seller did not know about the MPG. What do you think it would do MPG-wise?

I glady accept all information you can tell me about this model and engine. Thanks in advance! :D

What sort of mileage has it done? Cam chains last alot longer than cam belts.

My mk6 100 does 30 - 35 MPG

Clean looking van,

I get about 30-35 mpg on my 125 tdci,

Cam chains do last a lot longer then bets the guides and tensioners wear but do give a rattling noise well in advance of failure, if the van has been well looked after and serviced regular then all should be good. N
RUST IS LIGHTER THEN CARBON FIBRE

It has done about 14 500 miles. So it is a chain driven engine, good to hear. Do they need any maintenance?

Sounds real good about the MPG. Thanks for your reply!

Good mpg there too! From my point of view it makes a great impression and I could not hear any rattling noise from the engine. I saw some dirty wet spots down by the engine, I would think the area is the gearbox. Not dripping but wet. Seller told me it was probably the condensation from the AC, I really can't tell.

The price is quite high, about 2000 UK £, but I reckon it could get slightly lower.

Thank you for your help. :D
