Advice on van purchase

Postby Muddy Funster » Wed Jul 06, 2016 7:30 pm

I am currently looking for a MWB MK7 Transit to use for work. I have been offered a tidy 2010 mk7 280 trend for pretty good money, which has only been used for light work (carrying surveying equipment) but has 190,000 mile on it. It has full main dealer service history and was serviced 10,000 miles ago and mot'd till March next year. I have test driven it and it pulls well, the steering feels tight and the gear change smooth, no clunks from underneath and no oil leaks. Other than a few age related scuffs and scratches it seems pretty good.
Can i ask should I be put off by the mileage? Also is there anything I should specifically look for on a van with this sort of mileage?

Thanks in advance

There's vans on here done over 500k miles

If it's clean tidy and appeared well looked after, and the price is right, then why not

If it been well serviced and maintained then it should be ok, there are no unreliable engines just owners who neglect them,

The one thing to look for is erm rust but its like buying any vehicle have a good look underneath and like ake says depends on the price.

There is one member with 750,000 plus miles on his. N

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. I went to see the van again today and took it for another drive, just to be sure and it really does drive well. No signs of any oil leaks etc. Dealer is going to change the oil and filter prior to me collecting. So i have done the deal and will pick it up on Wednesday next week.

cheers
