Problems at certain milage?

Postby ClickIt » Sun Sep 18, 2016 4:37 pm

Hi I am considering purchasing another Transit after wasting my money on an asm van and having the gearbox stuff up after 5 weeks :-(

I am looking to buy a 2011 Ford Transit Van High Roof VM LWB that has 168000 k's on the clock

My question is...Is there certain mileage numbers that present common mechanical or fault problems???
I am trying to find out what i may be up for should i make this purchase...I can't afford any more issues!

Thanks Guys

If it has had regular oil changes and servicing then ask for proof and it wants to look genuine.
My clutch got replaced at 160k by me and the parts were about 450.

Prv/scv are about 300-400 inc fitting at a guess.

The rest you should be able to diagnose yourself by giving it a thorough going over.

Start it from cold, leave it ticking over a bit then feel all the gears/clutch/brakes/steering as you move them all through full motion.

Take it for a 20m drive on rural roads plus dual carriageway until it has warmed up completely.

Imo mk7 will always throw the odd noise but as long as it is quiet and pulls well then it is as good as you can expect in the test drive.

A well maintained van will present itself in how it looks, smells, drives.
A shitbox will also present itself.

Unfortunately you can never trust any vehicle 100% :-(
It only takes a broken wire or pin hole to spoil your day.

Thank You Loot
I appreciate the advice and comment.

Yes, it's annoying I purchased the asm van and 5 weeks later its stuffed and requires new actuators etc for the gearbox.
Here in Perth Aus that's a 3k job minimum without other items stuffing up along the way seals etc.

My mechanic who is a Ford Transit specialist, no other vehicles has said I would be far better to do a manual conversion than spend the $'s on
a repair of the asm. So that's what i will do later once I can find a cheap donor vehicle that is.

I looked at a 2011 manual going for a reasonable price but we discovered it had injector problems requiring new injectors
to be done (2.5k job) seller wouldn't come down in price so that's not on the cards now.

Oh well - will get there somehow :-)
Thanks Again.
David.
