Which used SWB to buy

Postby Spaceman1976 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 7:41 pm

Hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Im looking at buying a SWB transit, budget is around 2K. After all this talk of diesel emissions and tax hikes, charges ect, im a bit dumbfounded at which one I should get. Any advice of which models, year of reg, to avoid. I live in London and dont want to be stung in the future. Also what is the situation on particulate filters on transits, do they cost alot, any certain models/years have problems ect. In a nutshell which model/years should I avoid, and what would be a fair milage for a used SWB Transit for £2000 ? Any advice/info greatly appreciated 8)

Anything Euro3 upwards is currently allowed in the LEZ, that is, any Transit from August 2000 onwards, and actually includes some late registered Mk5's, and all Mk6's.
I would predict that within the next couple of years, they will change it to Euro4 (Transit 2006>) or even Euro5 (Transit 2012>)

Maybe your best plan, given the budget that you have, would be to find an older petrol engined model, which currently are excluded from the restrictions
1994 Mk4 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (R.I.P.)
1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered
