Hi all
Im going to look at a mk6 tipper with 121k on the clock i am completely useless with knowing what faults etc to listen for. Could anyone please give a few tips for what serious missuses to look/listen for?
I have checked mot history it failed on several issues on last mot which were
Reason(s) for failure
Nearside Front Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b)
Offside Rear Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)
Offside Rear Registration plate lamp shows direct white light to the rear (1.1.C.1f)
Offside Front Brake pipe excessively corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded Outer sill (5.2.6)
Nearside Front Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)
Nearside Rear Inner Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)
Offside Rear Inner Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)
Offside Front Tyre has a cut in excess of the requirements deep enough to reach the ply or cords (4.1.D.1a)
Advisory notice item(s)
Offside Rear Rear position lamp(s) damaged, but still visible from a reasonable distance (1.1.A.3d)
Central Rear Seat belt stitching slightly frayed (5.2.2b)
Front registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (6.3.1d)
Offside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive Outer sill (5.2.6)
Nearside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive Outer sill (5.2.6)
Nearside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Nearside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)
Buck corroded in various areas
Nearside Front Inner step starting to corrode
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Rear Slight play at road wheels when jacked up
Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

Once passed it had these advisory's
Buck corroded in various areas
Nearside Front Inner step starting to corrode
Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

As i said i am completely clueless when buying 2nd hand motors so any help / advise would be massively appreciated

i only plan on keeping it a 1-2 years max and paying £2600 would rust kill it in that time?
also being clueless as i am what is the buck?

Depends what body is on the rear , high side , tar shoots , what tipping rams fitted
Your buying the tipper as a tool and nothing more your mainly paying for the body and condition or else you’d be looking at a pick up which can be cheaper, if It need a little welding and you can turn you Hand to it I wouldn’t worry to much , it’s never going to be as clean as a van in the same year and mileage it’s there to get loaded with the digger and abused that’s how we seen ours ..
