Low Mileage Older Van or Newer High Mileage Van

Postby lsd » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:57 pm

Hi All

This is a general question - I have a limited amount of cash (don't we all) but looking at various vans it appears I can either afford

A. Old Van with lowish miles (2003-2005 with 60-90K)
or
B. Newer van with high mileage (2007-2009 with anywhere from 120K to 250K)

Which is the better option -
older vans may have problems with suspension joints/rust/trim breaking...etc

Newer vans will have newer technology and but of course Engine/Gearbox/bearings wear problems instead.

Would like to know uses view please.

Thanks

Leigh

The best vehicles I've had have all had over 100 thou on them ,milage is no indication of condition or way of evaluating the likelihood of problems.
Each vehicle needs to be judged for what it is.
Plenty of vans about that have never been in business hands and well looked after finding the right one is the tricky bit and no paperwork will tell you if its right or wrong.

In the case of ex fleet vans, Lower mileage ones tend to have done short start stop work, so will have lots of wear on clutch brakes, gearbox, doors seats etc, High mileage ones tend to have done long highspeed motorway trips, which are better for the vehicle.

I would choose a newer higher mileage van, subject to it having a watertight service history
