Mk1 and 2's from NZ wreckers field

Postby nostromo » Tue May 31, 2016 7:29 am

Some shots of some Mk1 (and one Mk2) Transits I found today while wandering Horopito Motors which is an old wrecking yard in New Zealands Volcanic plateau.
The yard was the centre of a local Movie in the 80's called Smash Palace and is pretty big place. Goes back to the 40's.

The green Mk1 has flared guards and a custom cross member and a rearward moved firewall. Guess a 6 or V8 was in there once.

Three more I found, bad photo and then my phone went flat about then unfortunately, but the blue shape to the right is a Mk1 flatdeck and had disks on the front.

I went there last year for a look around. It is quite a cool old place to wander around, and they let you do that freely. But they want stupid money for parts, and honestly, most of the cars have sat out in the weather for so long they are only good for scrap. After looking at every single Transit there, I could not find any parts that were useful to me. All of the good bits had been pilfered long ago. I did get the bonnet off that brown bullnose Mk1 a few years ago though:)

In about one million years they'll find huge iron deposits in New Zealand  .
Some people are like slinkies.... not good for much but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.
