Transits Banger Racing - you may not want to look in here

Postby Vandalism » Thu Nov 18, 2010 6:56 pm

I know this is a bit ironic uploading pictures of transits geting smashed up as this is a forum about saving transits but never the less i thought the photos may be of interest. the pictures where taken at Ringwood Raceway (matchems) over a few years - feel free to tell me what you think

2007

not a transit but a ldv - never the less nice paint job

mk3 van

the end commeth

Image
at first glance this van dosent appear to have an engine? but on futher inspection it the pits i think it had a 2 litre pinto engine set really far back

2010
the white transit below is of interest because it has a Jaguar engine fitted with some modification to the bulkhead - is this an idea for a future transit engine swap? - has anybody done somthing similar on here?

Image
Jag powered

Image
the rear axel has been changed for a jag axel and modifications to the inner wheel arches have been done to accomodate this

Image
the jag engine

Image
another pic of the engine

Image
engine swaps are popular in this formula - this appears to have a ford grandna 2.3 or 2.8 in it

Image

nice mk2

Image
the internals of the mk2

Image
this mk2 took a BIG smack to the front from a flat out head on crash...but it being a transit it was stright out in the next race

Image
front view - the front has been bent right up above the axel - still went tho good old transits never die

Image
rear view - this was the result of another van going flat out into the back of it - diddnt kill the mk2 tho

the following pics where taken at Arlington (eastbourn) race way

Image
nice mk2 beaver tail with a morris oxford on the back - D reg, thats a very late mk2

Image
mk2 tow van

Image

Image
early mk3 - nice to see one still being used

Image
trusty transit tow trucks - is there a better van for the job.. i think not

I'm afraid that's where many of the mk2's have ended up, i feel the same as you when i see mk2 Granadas being smashed up, they are a victim of their own success, because they are strong and well built make them popular for banger racing, i watch banger racing myself and have seen many a minter being raced

Those first pics were taken at Mildenhall and the last ones at Arena Essex poss Firecracker??? not sure about the 2nd lot of pics, but i think it's tragic when a one off vehicle is raced never to be seen again, trouble is the bangers boys usually compete to see who has the rarest vehicle at Firecracker and get all the attention cos the public have never seen one before
